Walking around El Barrio de Los Austrias

This district is called like this (The Madrid of the Habsburgs) since the monarchs of that dynasty helped to promote its development in the 16th century.

When I visit Madrid, I always try to take a walk around El Barrio de Los Austrias, one of the most beautiful and quaint districts in this cosmopolitan capital. It’s a historic area where monarchs and aristocratic families once lived, and which is charmingly spotted with stunning monuments, traditional bars, magnificent palaces, enclosed monasteries and hundred-year-old temples.

A journey back in time that helps me understand Madrid today!
