Madrid – From quarantine to my piece of heaven in Spain
Hi!
My name is Maribel and I’m Project Assistant at Lime DMC.
In Spain, we’ve all stayed at home, in quarantine, since the 15th of March. We’ve had time to relax, to turn our living rooms into gyms, to try every YouTube tutorial there is and to just stay by ourselves.
But as soon as the confinement is over it’s time to see friends and family to share food in nice restaurants, to share drinks with amazing views, to go out for a run surrounded by nature and to come back to crowded streets.
I have the perfect place, MADRID.
From my confinement I’m dreaming about an amazing weekend – and it would look like this;
The first thing is to plan the weekend over a vermouth in my favourite neighbourhood of Madrid, Malasaña. I have in my mind to go to Casa Camacho, or Los Yayos, as the locals call it.
When it’s time for dinner I choose my favourite vegan restaurant, Superchulo. Who said that healthy food is boring? If you are one of those who thinks so, you must try Superchulo and you’ll change your mind for sure.
What’s next?… PARTY.
I love the nightlife of Madrid, especially when you know where to go.
I love 80’s music and history. And now you think: “How can these concepts be mixed?” I have the answer, going to bars that opened during the 80´s, during “La Movida Madrileña”. A time of big changes characterized by freedom of expression, transgression of the taboos imposed in Francoist Spain, modernity, party and the “window” which opened Spain to the whole world.
On Saturday morning no time for rest!
It’s been a long time without feeling the fresh air so how about a long walk in the Retiro Park?
The reward will be a brunch in the best place in Madrid, La Habanera. I’m already dreaming their superb Eggs Benedict!
For the afternoon coffee there is not another option but the terrace of Hotel ME Madrid Reina Victoria, in the heart of Madrid, in El Barrio de las Letras. I miss walking through its streets and get lost in its old fabric shops and the poems written on its sidewalks.
The best way to end the day is going to El Templo de Debod, the best place to enjoy the sunset and to listen a free concert as there is always somebody playing the guitar.
I used to live in Arguelles area and near to my old apartment is one of my favourite restaurants, La Sifonería. The owner is so kind and he knows just about everything there is to know about beer. You can even try one made by himself.
Sunday? Sunday in Madrid means La Latina neighbourhood, it means El Rastro (Madrid Street market) where you can get a Levi’s jacket for 10 euros! Sunday also means drinks in El Viajero rooftop – small, charming and full of people, just as I love it.
We’ll be back on the streets soon again, so Madrid, be ready!!!
