A touch of spring in “Los Patios de Córdoba”
Every year in May, Córdoba celebrates its well known Courtyards Festival, a tradition listed as Intangible World Heritage by UNESCO. I try to visit this city during this event, as I love wandering in and out of the patios, seeing some of them through iron gates or just strolling around the historic quarter of the town, where these charming and romantic sites are placed.
I find it utterly interesting to see how their owners spend all year preparing their stunning flower displays in order to take part in the “patios competition” to discover the most beautiful courtyards in town.
As I walk through the narrow, cobbled streets of the old town, I always feel impressed by all this beauty: scent of orange blossom and jasmine, colourful flowerpots, lovely plates arranged on the walls, pretty old-fashioned tiles, and much more.
And, believe me, what strikes me the most is to see how the owners set up these magnificent and gorgeous displays in such a tiny space.
If you are lucky enough to be in Córdoba during this time, do yourself a favour and see the patios!
